The Eco Camp site was closed for a number of years, during which time local fauna (particularly kangaroos) took advantage of the vacant grazing areas. New operators wanted to live in harmony with these animals and so the brief for a new resort style swimming pool focused on creating a natural aesthetics and respecting the current movement patterns of native animals.
The pool design includes a vegetated swale which acts as a ‘Ha Ha’ barrier between the pool and native habitat areas. The drainage design creates a series of natural infiltration ponds which can act as ephemeral water sources for native animals.
Locally quarried rock was extensively used in the design and the use of native coastal planting both seek to embed the design with the surrounding environment
