Our design for this medium density development takes inspiration from the site’s industrial heritage. In the early stages of the project we were able to salvage materials for re-purposing on site. Bespoke shade structures take inspiration from coal ‘Hoppers’ and coke work processes will be used as place names; engraved into garden walls. The site also includes interesting interfaces including a heritage plaza which will house a section of the original coke ovens and a large, open grassland that will be revegetated with endemic species. Industrial inspired finishes will be soften with lush planting, using species from local plant communities.
